Just over a week ago I was finished reading 'Mao's Last Dancer', took me 3 days to read it, because it was just ..... "un-put-downable" XD Sorry I know there's no such word but that's how I express it. If you can find a copy of the book where you live and if its reasonably priced, GET IT. I mean it, its one of the best reads ever even if you're not a dancer. But of course if you have absolutely 0 interest in dance then nvm, you might not be interested. It's not all about ballet, its the storyline that's capturing.
Then just two days ago I found out they're making a movie on it and it's coming out October 1st!! Too long to wait, but... its.. sorta soon, so I think I can wait. The book's pretty old, came out like 3 years ago but is still a hit.
WATCH THE TRAILER, it's awesome! The cast is soooo similar to the pictures of the actual people, except the blondie ballerina he first falls in love with, the actual girl was brunette..
Here's the trailer:

The actual author was pretty happy with who they casted, and I have to say the trailer is pretty good. I've seen the main actor before, he's in the Birmingham Royal Ballet and they came to Beijing before and I watched their dress rehearsal. He's pretty good. From the jumps I see in the trailer, it looks even better! XD No, there's no photoshop, you can't photoshop or use bungee ropes for brilliant ballet jumps.
Just yesterday I found a video of the actual author/person on youtube.. his turns were awesome. When he did like seemingly a gazillion pirouettes in one shot I was like gobsmacked.
Oh, and I can't believe they were in Beijing filming an I had no idea, absolutely no idea.. they filmed at the Great Wall! Well who hasn't? lol.. but I don't think they filmed anywhere near I lived because (I'm judging by the story and the movie trailer) they filmed tiananmen, which is in the city, and they probably did film at the Beijing Dance Academy which is like at the edge of Beijing, super far away. And they filmed a lot in the US and Australia as well.
I so can't wait for this movie. I loved the story more than I have ever loved the Harry Potter series or any other story I've ever read. It's the first touching story I've ever read. As I was reading the story I was trying to imagine... like from a very young age he's been living at the Beijing Dance Academy, only seeing his family once a year (there is one year where he doesn't see them at all), and then after he sorta graduated he didn't see his family for another 6 or 7 years. Its like he barely even spent much time with his family.
Reading that story also gave me a bit of knowledge about communist China, when it was under Maozhidong's reign. Eeeeeew seriously I would've hated that guy. It was like North Korea.
ANYWAY read the book! Borrow it or whatever, just read it!
